for this second release the new parisian label street knowledge choose to produce two young native italians djs. peter jd and francys met in a small city in the south of italy, both evolving on the music scene since they are 14. peter is bringing the detroit house music touch whereas francys the 80s 90s music sound. from this collaboration is born the connection ep. where two different worlds find each other in a common space, connection ep brings different ideas of sound at the same time, by one side following a dry techno line with pumping drums and solid grooves, by the other side warmer and deeper, crossing hypnotic detroit flavored synths, chicago house, organic elements and chromatic female vocals. to make this release totally international jenifa mayanja from connecticut and the greek quell are delivering two remixes that should make a bomb effect on all the dance floors.

dutch master orlando voorn with a two-track release containing some of his pioneering material as format. rightly recognised as one of a handful of artists who built the early, crucial bridges between europe and detroit in the late-eighties and early nineties via collaborations with juan atkins and output for kms, voorns legacy is unquestionable. winning hollands dmc championships in 1986 and 1987 was the real career catalyst and there seems to be no let up in quality since then, either as a dj or a multifaceted, multi-genre producer. these two tracks are produced in 1993 and still didnt loose their magic!damn right and jam session have that the raw charm, edge and vibe sounds so current. energetic, melodic and broken, both tracks touch on a myriad of styles but what shines through is how modern electronic styles can be traced back to this sort of fantastic, unique output. format remastered could be sitting snuggly alongside modern house, techno, uk garage, uk funky and many more contemporary styles. this is a rare chance to grab beautifully treated versions of classic voorn material.

kyle geiger brings you his third installment on his imprint cubera in a quest to bridge some crucial gaps between house and techno constituents. this time, taking it a little deeper with the use of vocal work from vocalist stefanie jansen for the title track scream, weaving her voice in and out of a strong synth and percussion work out. in the second mix of the a-side, truncate lends his tough, stripped style for his remix of >scream<, providing a welcome contrast to the original. on the other side, >underneath< adjusts the eps sweat dial to 11 with its shit-losing, raw synth hook. the fact that this track even has a sweat dial that goes up to 11 should communicate something really special. the final track step brings more of an stabby, yet scaled back afterhours vibe to round things out, while still carrying enough critical mass to make things a little messy.

hit and hope present sinistarrs first non-dnb excursion in the form of the >cetra ep<. despite jumping tempos and styles, all 3 originals manage to remain coherent with sinistarrs catalog. the emotive synth chords, beefed up roland trs and human production ethic of 90s detroit are squeezed into the format of various current underground sounds in something altogether very unique.
at 135bpm, the title track cetra is drawn out progressive structure nods more to a classic rephlex cut than the majority of current club, or bass music with despite sharing a tempo and similar rhythms.

years after delivering a remix for booka shade in 2006, shinedoe makes her solo debut on get physical this winter, bringing with her a wonderfully fresh sound in the form of her transcendental ep. she takes us to the tops of mountains and then drags the deepenst waters. light is a deep mix of techno cascades and funk groove. we build up momentum with piano and driving percussion toward a climactic break, then pull you further into the vibe. transcendental brings a treat of dazed synth and organic percussion. a trip into the music brings us to the dark rooms of late night. we are entranced with thick bass and hypnotic repetition throughout the course of the dancefloor friendly track. next we are immediatly entrapped by the muffle of cosmic, under a thick sheet of foggy ambience. vocal cuts stab the air, setting the pace for a sudden bass groove. the track is deep, solid and very detroit.

well, here is his first album proper >digital native<, 15 tracks of glowing, nocturnal, analogue grace that hark back to acid house and early techno, but with a mood and intent that seems to be designed for watching images dance on closed eyelids. it is no surprise that his work as a video artist resonates so strongly with the music he makes.
